Baby Boomers

While the term is argued over by many experts, baby boomers is usually referring to a generation that was born from just after WWII in the late 1940s to the late 1950s.Some believe that baby boomers were born before the 40s and after the 50s but most agree that those born between are definitely part of the baby boomer generation. The name baby boomer comes from the high birth rate during these years. Older definitions of baby boomers included those that were born from 1955 to 1965 but this age group has now been renamed Generation Jones.

Many times baby boomers are looked at as people who rejected traditional values and challenged the "norm" in society. They are said to be the generation that redefined what is looked at as normal. They are often also associated with key moments in pop culture like the creation of Star Trek and Mission Impossible. Because of the technological advancements of the time, baby boomers are often thought of as a privileged generation. They were healthier, richer, and better off than any generation that had come before them. These improvements in lifestyle led the generation to think more optimistically and believe that the world would get better.

Baby boomers have had an impact on most aspects of society and as a result many notable things have happened. In the late 60s baby boomers watched in amazement as Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and became the first man ever to do so. Most young men of the baby boomer generation had to worry about being drafted for the Vietnam War. These worried sparked anti-war protests and social changes. The assassination of several leaders such as JFK, Malcolm X, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. were witnessed by this generation. New forms of music, most notably rock and roll, were developed and brought to mainstream society.

Baby boomers are a group of free-spirited and individualistic people who have seen a lot on their lives.
